orchard road - a great street
Love it or loathe it, Orchard Road is here to stay. An absolute haven for the shopaholic, fashionista or simply the gawkers. A place to see and be seen. Named for the fruit orchards and farms for spices like nutmeg and pepper in the old days, it has since undergone transformations that is beyond recognition. Today, Orchard Road is choked full of glitter and shimmer, especially during June-August when the Great Singapore Sale is on, and during Christmas when Orchard Road is transformed into "Christmas on a Great Street". That's when it seems the whole of Singapore (and the world) descends on Orchard Road for festive shopping.
