river cruises - just like in the old days
A cruise down the historic Singapore River is a must for those who are looking for a nostalgic and meaningful time learning about the significance of the River - where it all started for the port town of Singapore. Operated by the Singapore River Cruises, it's a slow and gentle meandering traipse down the river along popular nightspot hangouts like Robertson Quay, Clarke Quay and Boat Quays to make a lovely end to the day.
The leisurely cruise also takes you onto the Marina Bay taking in sights like the iconic Marina Bay Sands integrated resort, Merlion Park, Esplanade Theatres on the Bay etc. These cruise boats, also known as 'bumboats', used to ply the river carrying goods for the warehouses along the river up till the '80s and were to have been totally cleared from the river, except for a retrofit of electric motor that saved them and gave them a new lease of life as leisure crafts.
A 40 minutes cruise cost Adult $25 and Child $15 (Mar 2016), and we recommend that you purchase your tickets an board your cruise at their Clarke Quay jetty, a central location nearest the Clarke Quay MRT with plenty of shopping, F&B options and also sight seeing before and after your cruise.
RLC recommends :
Have a meal or a drink along Boat or Clarke Quay.
Try the GMax bungy at Clarke Quay.
Walk along the RIVER before or after your cruise. Take a walk to the historic Fort Canning Park, by crossing River Valley Road running alongside the river.
