A hotel ROOM TO FIT EVERY POCKET
There are hundreds of great accommodations all over Singapore. You will however most likely aim for some that are around the city limits, near to the main districts south of Singapore like Chinatown, Little India, Bugis, Lavender, Kampung Glam, Sentosa and Orchard Road. And your options will run the gamut of the super luxe ones like Raffles Hotel, Marina Bay Sands, Resorts World Sentosa's Beach Villa, Fullerton Bay Hotel to the more simpler and no-frills budget hostels/backpackers found conveniently close to the popular sights and attractions in town. There's something to suit all budgets and travel plans.
Almost 80% of the concentrations of hotels will be in these areas, so you are spoiled for choice. Here are some tips for your consideration:
If budget is not the concern, you want convenience, enjoyment and luxury, some considerations would be the hotels around Orchard, Marina Bay and Sentosa. There you will find the superb hotels that give you unrivaled comfort, luxury and convenience all rolled into one. Hotels along Orchard Road offers you unmatched shopping, entertainment and F&B options. Those near the Marina Bay are walking distance (or a few MRT stops) from heritage areas, Museums& Galleries, F&B offerings and entertainment. While those in Sentosa offers you the great escape to island living, with about 40 attractions to keep the entire family engaged. And often times the hotel itself is the attraction. So those intending to maximise their time in Sentosa might consider booking a hotel there (about 30minutes from town).
Budget travelers are spoiled for choice too, where in recent years we have seen an explosion of good backpackers and budget hotels/motels springing up all over town.
As in Sentosa, if you plan to spend a few days there, you might want to book a room in Sentosa to maximise your stay. But if you love exploring the Heritage, Cultural and Old historical sites, and the many Museums and Galleries, then consider basing your self in the central area of town like Orchard Road, Little India, Chinatown, Marina Bay, Bugis/Lavender. Base yourself in the East if you are planning to explore areas in the East like Changi (Beach, War Museum, WW2 sites, Pulau Ubin) the East Coast Parkway Beach, Joo Chiat and Katong for ethnic Peranakan architecture and food, there are also several good options of hotel accommodations there.
If you have only a day or two, consider the airport hotel or park yourself in the East (near the airport). With more time at hand, you might even consider a hotel slightly further away from all the action, but might save you a small bundle to splurge on gorgeous local food or souvenir hunting in town. E.g. are hotels near Balestier Road, Geylang, even out west like Jurong (nearer to attractions like the excellent Jurong Bird Park & shopping experiences in the western sector).
Having considered all, Singapore IS small.
It is well served with an excellent and reliable Public Transport infrastructure system (MRT trains, Buses and Taxis) that ensures your travel around would not be more than 1 hour or so. Most places are within a few MRT stops away from each other (e.g. on average, Chinatown to Little India on MRT, is 12 mins and 3 stations away. Chinatown to Orchard, 20 mins 4 stations away. To Botanic Gardens about 37 mins and 10 stations). Taxis are also relatively cheap and convenient, although there are surcharges during peak hours and if you go through restricted zones.
